What Life Coaching Is
The definition of ‘coaching’ is a method of directing, instructing and training a person or group of people, with the aim to achieve a goal or develop specific skills.
Life coaching is a form of learning, where a person (a coach) supports someone else (a coachee) to create learning and self development in a way that benefits them.
Coaching has always played a big part within the sporting industry. Coaches are used to support the individual to improve their performance and get better results depending on what they wish to achieve. For a tennis player, their goal may be to win at Wimbledon or simply to improve their serve. The coach’s role is to use specific principles of success that creates learning and improvement for the tennis player. The same aspects are applied to Life Coaching.
Personal coaching should never be considered to be a form of counselling or therapy. It is simply a way of encouraging and empowering an individual to achieve personal goals set by themselves.
